What it is
A makeup air schedule shows how the air a kitchen exhaust hood removes is replaced: the hood airflow, the makeup air source, how it is controlled and how it ties into the rest of the system.
We coordinate it with the Manual J, so the extra outdoor air is counted in the loads instead of surprising the equipment.
When you need it
In jurisdictions that follow the IRC, Section M1503.6 (M1503.4 in older editions) requires makeup air for kitchen exhaust hoods rated over 400 cubic feet per minute. Many reviewers now ask to see it on the mechanical plan.
