Hourly design help and second opinions
Consultation: an hour with a designer.
Sometimes you do not need a full design. You need someone who does this every day to look at the numbers, the comment letter or the plan and tell you plainly what to do. Consultation is billed hourly.
What it is
We check the inputs and assumptions behind an existing Manual J, S or D: design conditions, envelope values, window data, infiltration, duct losses and equipment selection.
We also review permit comment letters and rejected submittals, answer design questions, and tell you exactly what the reviewer needs.
When you need it
A second opinion costs far less than oversized equipment or another rejected permit. It is also how architects and owners catch mechanical plans that are not up to standard.
What we need from you
- The existing calculation or design
- The plans it was based on
- Any reviewer comments or comment letter
What you receive
- Straight answers on a call or in writing
- Specific corrections needed
- A corrected calculation, if you want us to redo it
“If I could give them 10 stars, I would. We used them to produce load calculations for a $1.75M home renovation project in DC and they absolutely nailed it. Our architect's mechanical plans were not up to snuff so we gave LoadCalcs our…”
Questions
How is consultation billed?
Hourly. Tell us what you need and we will tell you roughly how long it takes before we start.
Can you review a contractor’s sizing before I sign?
Yes. If the quote is based on a Manual J, send it. If it is not, we can run one.
My permit was rejected. Can you help?
Yes. Send the comment letter and the submitted documents and we will tell you what to fix.
Do you work with architects?
Often. One DC renovation came to us after the architect’s mechanical plans fell short. We redid them and the permit issued.
